Chili Dogs, Nachos, and Cinnamon Rolls

So this past weekend my team had a very important tournament...League #1. It is the start to our season basically where we have ranked to play with 11 other teams and the top 2 teams from the day move up a division and the bottom 2 move down. We have been practicing really hard for it and I have been preparing them, and telling them how important this tournament is to our season. Well we start off the day great winning two games back to back putting us at #2 overall. We get a half hour break before we start our play off bracket which we need to hold our seed so we can move up a division. So I tell them go get something to eat, hydrate and be back in the gym ready to go in 30 minutes. Brooke and I go out to where all our girls and parents are eating and see the amazing spread off goodies our parents have so nicely provided for everyone. Chili dogs, nachos, pizza, cookies, lolli-pops, Gatorade, salad, chips, cinnamon rolls, cuties, fruit, and the girls are loving it, of course. Not really thinking anything of it at the time we go back in the gym warm-up and get ready to play the #8 seeded team of the day, we got this! Yaaaa righttt we lost so bad, my girls were a completely different team did not show up what so ever, we take the team to 3 games which only goes to 15 points and we are up in the third game 10-3 and we lost!!!! And from then on out we lose every match taking us back down to #8 so we are staying in our division when we should have moved up!!!

So at practice this week I asked the girls what they thought the change was from the beginning of the day to the end?! One of my favorite player's raises her hand and said, "Coach I want to be completely honest with you, I think it was the break and all the food!" Another girls says, "Ya I ate 3 CHILI DOGS!" another, "Ya I had 10 cinnamon rolls, did you try those they were so good?!!" another, "I had 3 pieces of pizza and a bowl of nachos!" another "I think I had 3 cookies and 2 bowls of nachos!" I was like WHAT!!!! Are you girls serious?! 3 Chili dogs...really?! Who does that!! I told them no wonder you guys did not play well your bodies weren't trying to play volleyball they wanted to rest and digest all the junk you just ate!!! So my team got a little lesson in healthy eating at tournaments and so did the parents. Its funny now when I think about it but really that is just crazy to me that they were eating like that, and it makes me mad because they should have won against those teams...ugh lesson learned!
